Beam Her Up: Matilda The Cat Has Huge Eyes That Make Her Look Like An Adorable Alien
There are a lot of animals who have huge social media followings, but Matilda the cat truly is exceptional. Her huge glazed eyes make her look like she should be on an episode of the new X Files series as an intergalactic visitor from planet Meow-ars.
The reason she looks like this, according to her owners, is because of a genetic disorder, which resulted in the lens of her right and left eyes detaching.
This caused her eyes to start expanding in a condition known as lens luxation.
After seeing a veterinary ophthalmologist they decided to leave her eyes as they were for now rather than undergo surgery, because she also has a collagen deficiency which means she doesn't heal well.
The condition is deteriorating though and someday she will need surgery to remove her eyes completely.
Her unusual alien-like appearance has won her 35,000 followers on Instagram, where her owners post regular pictures of her and fan art sent to them.
